BECOME awards

The BECOME Awards encourage First Nations youth in Quebec to stay in school!

The New Pathways Foundation, in collaboration with the Quebec Indigenous Mentorship Network, is delighted to announce the launch of the BECOME Awards for 2023-2024. These awards are designed to honor and reward the academic perseverance of First Nations youth in Quebec.

Why is this important? Encouraging and celebrating the retention of First Nations youth in school is crucial. It’s an important aspect of our future, and that of the seven generations to come. As part of Hooked on School Days and through the BECOME Awards, we aim to recognize, celebrate, and encourage their determination, whether they’re in school, in transition, or forging their own educational or professional path. To this end, we will be awarding a $700 bursary to 10 nominated young individuals.

You have a role to play! It’s your responsibility, so we’re calling on you, the dedicated teachers and passionate stakeholders, to identify and nominate young people who embody the spirit of perseverance, because you’re the best people to do it. Your nomination, in addition to being a motivating factor, recognizes the exceptional value of your student and places him or her as an inspiring role model.

How can you take part? Visit https://forms.office.com/r/ycmG3hjvyw to access the nomination form and nominate one of your students. Nominations will be selected by random draw. Don’t forget, the deadline for submitting your nomination is March 4, so don’t delay!

An event not to be missed
The winners will be announced at a special online event on March 12, during lunchtime. As a nominator, you’ll have the unique opportunity to share a few words about the student you’ve nominated in a friendly and inspiring virtual setting. Your presence would be greatly appreciated.

This program is more than an awards ceremony; it’s a celebration of youth, culture, and the bright future we’re building together.
